1. Ṭa Bạch Ốc loan báo rằng TT Barack Obama sẽ gặp gỡ Thủ Tướng Benjamin Netanyahu của Do Thái nhân chuyến viếng thăm Hoa Thịnh Đốn của ông này để ngỏ lời cùng những nhóm Do Thái. Ông Netanyahu đă tới thủ đô Hoa Kỳ vào tối chủ nhật để phát biểu tại Đại Hội kéo dài 3 ngày của Liên Đoàn Do Thái Bắc Mỹ. Ông dự trù hội kiến với TT Obama vào tối nay.

2008 Country Reports on Human Rights Practices

The Socialist Republic of Vietnam, with a population of approximately 86 million, is an authoritarian state ruled by the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV). The most recent National Assembly elections, held in May 2007, were neither free nor fair, since all candidates were vetted by the CPV's Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF), an umbrella group that monitored the country's mass organizations. Civilian authorities generally maintained effective control of the security forces.
The government's human rights record remained unsatisfactory. Citizens could not change their government, and political opposition movements were prohibited. The government continued to crack down on dissent, arresting political activists and causing several dissidents to flee the country. Police sometimes abused suspects during arrest, detention, and interrogation. Corruption was a significant problem in the police force, and police officers sometimes acted with impunity. Prison conditions were often severe.

TT Barack Obama đă bắt đầu ngày làm việc đầu tiên với tư cách là một vị nguyên thủ quốc gia bằng việc đọc lại các mẩu giấy tờ do ông Bush lưu lại trong văn pḥng và sau đó ông đă gọi các lănh tụ ở Trung Đông. Ông đến văn pḥng lúc 8 giờ 35 sáng hôm qua. Ông đă ngồi lặng lẽ một ḿnh trước khi gặp vị chánh văn pḥng Ṭa Bạch Ốc Rahm Emanuel để thảo luận về thời khóa biểu làm việc trong ngày. Kế tiếp, ông tham dự lễ cầu nguyện tại Vương Cung Thánh Đường Quốc Gia tại khu Tây Bắc thủ đô Hoa Thịnh Đốn vào lúc 10 giờ sáng hôm qua. Ông cũng đă gặp gỡ nhóm kinh tế của ông và các nhân vật hàng đầu của Ngũ Giác Đài.

Five signers were captured by the British as traitors, and tortured before they died.
Twelve had their homes ransacked and burned. Two lost their sons serving in the Revolutionary Army; another had two sons captured.

In the center of the office, Nguyen Dinh Thang is seated at a coffee table piled with Vietnamese American newspapers, the Washington Post, and a dish full of candy. Thang is waiting to sit down in front of a camera and summarize recent events in Congress for Vietnamese American Television.

In a major change, the American Heart Association said Monday that hands-only CPR - rapid, deep presses on the victim's chest until help arrives - works just as well as standard CPR for sudden cardiac arrest in adults.

Chúng ta đă thấy Linh Mục Nguyễn Văn Lư bị bịt miệng trong phiên xử ông. CS sẽ xử LS Lê Thị Công Nhân, Luật Sư NguyễnVăn Đài như thế nào vào ngày 11/5? Chúng ta không thể ngồi yên, không thể làm ngơ, không làm ǵ, để mặc cho CS bỏ tù dân ḿnh một cách dă man.
Theo Luật sư Lê thị Công Nhân th́ CS rất sợ áp lực của thế giới, v́ những nước dân chủ, giàu mạnh trên thế giới có một sức mạnh rất lớn… CS đă dùng chính sách lao tù để đàn áp, đe dọa người dân trong nước. Người dân trong nước bị bó tay, bị bịt miệng, không thể vận động với thế giới bên ngoài được. Từ ngục tù tăm tối, LS Lê thị Công Nhân đă đặt kỳ vọng ở chúng ta, ở hải ngoại, có tự do, có dân chủ hăy thay họ nói lên tiếng nói nhân quyền cho đồng bào ở quê nhà.
Trong các phiên xử, mỗi lần một bị cáo có toan tính đi ra ngoài những lời tự thú đă bị áp đặt trước là lập tức bị dàn áp. Ông Huỳnh Vĩnh Sanh vừa hô "Việt Nam Cộng Ḥa muôn năm" liền bị một cán bộ cộng sản đưa tay bịt miệng, một cán bộ khác chạy tới c̣ng tay lại ! Ông Hồ Thái Bạch bị công an dùng dùi cui đánh đập v́ ông lên tiếng phản đối các bản án của ṭa án cộng sản.
Sau 4 ngày diễn ra vụ án bịp bợm, các bản án đă được tuyên đọc trong suốt 2 giờ đồng hồ :
Tử h́nh : Mai Văn Hạnh, Trần Văn Bá, Lê Quốc Quân, Huỳnh Vĩnh Sanh, Hồ Thái Bạch.
Chung thân : Trần Nguyên Hùng, Tô Văn Hườn, Hoàng Đ́nh My.
Từ 8 đến 20 năm tù : số 13 kháng chiến quân c̣n lại.
Ghi chú : các h́nh trong trang này được lấy từ bán nguyệt san Hoa Thịnh Đốn Việt Báo số 1 đến 15 tháng 1 năm 1985.
